About Mikael Lilje

Mikael Lilje is a Swedish civil servant and international leader with over 30 years of experience in geospatial development and global collaboration. He holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geodesy and Photogrammetry) from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. He has worked in various positions at Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority) since 1994.

His current role is as Manager of the International Department at Lantmäteriet, responsible for development cooperation projects across Africa and Eastern Europe, and for coordinating international relations for Lantmäteriet with focus on e.g. UN, EuroGeographics, FIG and Nordic collaboration.

Mikael’s FIG history started in 1997, and he has served on all levels from secretary of Commission five to two terms as vice President.

He was accepted as honorary member of FIG in 2025. His dedication to maintaining FIG’s relevance is beyond question.
